Born December 12, 1942, in Fairmont, Minnesota (population about 9,000),
the third of seven children and only boy. Father, Budd R. Rich, is office
supervisor for Fairmont Railway Motors; Mother, Patricia, is a housewife.
Oldest sister at 24 is Judith Rich OíFallon: Merit scholar, Woodrow Wilson
Fellowship, B.A. Marquette University(summa cum laude), and M.S. University
of North Carolina in statistics. Now instructs at Negro Womenís College in Virginia.
Janet, age 22, B.A. Drake University(magnum cum laude) inEnglish and
theater arts. Teaches high school English in Des Moines, Iowa.
Four younger sisters are Barbara,17; Susan,13; Mary Alice,7; and Carol
Ann,5.
High School Record. Graduated 6/175 from Fairmont Senior High in 1960.
Received ìCertificate of Meritî as result of National Merit Scholarship exams.
Won honors in music( All-State Orchestra, 1958), athletics(letterman and
Region II tennis champion). Was member of National Thespians Society
for work in dramatics.
University of Minnesota Record. Awarded a General Motors Scholarship by
the University (1960-1964). Lived two years in Frontier Hall dormatory.
President of house II and member of hall council. Member of Freshman
Cabinent(M.S.A.), and worked on M.S.A. ìSymposiumî. Junior year became
a member of Delta Chi Fraternity, and was elected the organizationís
President in 19634. Worked about ten hours per week each year. Grade
point averages for each year were 3.3,3.2, and 2.55. Cumulative average
is 2.94
Hobbies are music, tournament bridge, and intramural tennis.
Most interesting college experience was summer research position working
for W. E. Noland (1963).
Future Plans. Interested in molecular biology, human pathology, and
synthesis of biochemical agents.
