The Junior Symposium was an opportunity for family members accompanying regular Symposium participants, and for prize-winning students invited from local area schools, to present their work. Twelve young scientists age 10-18 had the time of their life, as illustrated in the photo gallery that follows. That's Justin Palmen in the middle; he won the top senior prize at the Minnesota State Science Fair sponsored by the Minnesota Academy of Science, as judged by a team from the University of Minnesota headed by Professor Karin Musier-Forsyth (foreground). If your eyes are sharp, you will also recognize Junior Symposium participant Melissa Rosemeier talking to Barbara Barany, and Merrifield Award winner Daniel H. Rich scouting Nicole Landreville as a possible recruit for his University of Wisconsin laboratory.
