The Douglas Group has received their first grant award. The American Chemical Society - Petroleum Research Fund (ACS-PRF) awarded the group a starter grant type G for the C–C bond activation project. We thank the donors of the PRF for their support.

First-year graduate students Ashley Dreis and Ross Moren have joined the Douglas Group for their PhD studies.

T. Giang Hoang, a first-year graduate student, has decided to conduct his research with the Douglas Group.

Michael Wentzel, a second-year graduate student who worked on the C–C bond activation project over the summer, has decided to continue his graduate studies with the Douglas Group.

Elic Yagodkin joins the Douglas Group as a post-candidacy graduate student. He will be working on a joint project in organic semiconductors with the Douglas and Frisbie Groups.

The Douglas Group welcomes Jagan Reddy, who recently graduated with his M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota - Duluth.

Three more chemistry undergraduates will be conducting research with the Douglas Group as part of Directed Studies this fall. They are Lindsey Musselman, Jeff Schunk, and Joe Ostrowski. Our summer graduate students have finished their summer research projects and graduate student orientation. We wish them luck with their future graduate work.

The Douglas Group welcomes Todd Hyster, a chemistry major in his last year at the U. He will be continuing with the group throughout Fall 2007 as part of Directed Studies.

Heather Sklenicka, Ph.D., an instructor at the Rochester Community Technical College located in Rochester, MN, will be visiting us for three weeks. She and Chris Douglas were co-workers in the Hsung group when she was a graduate student and when Chris was an undergraduate at the U.

The Douglas group welcomes its fourth summer student: Jacob Schmidt. Jacob joins us after graduating with his B.A. from Ripon College located near Oshkosh and Fond du Lac, WI. Ripon, WI is located about 15 miles from Chris Douglas’ hometown of Berlin, WI.

The lab is mostly set up, our initial batch of chemicals has arrived, and our first experiments are underway.

The Douglas group welcomes three summer students. Heidi Dahlmann joins us after graduating with her B.S. from Wisconsin Lutheran College located in Milwaukee, WI. She was a LANDO student with the Hoye group during the summer of 2006. Michael Wentzel hails from the Kozlowski lab at U. Penn, where he graduated with his M.S. Evgeny Beletskiy is a LANDO summer undergraduate from St. Petersburg State University, Russia.

Chris and Rosalind Douglas move into the newly renovated laboratory space. The laboratories and student office are located in 564 to 567 Kolthoff Hall, and Chris’ office is located across the hall in 568C. We have six fume hoods, ovens, a solvent purification system, and stacks of unopened boxes and crates. Cheers!
