Katie McGarry coauthors with Wei Xie and Yanfei Wu from the Frisbie Group, and Feilong Liu from the Ruden Group on their manuscript, "High-Mobility Transistors Based on Single Crystals of Isotopically Subsituted Rubrene-d28" published in the Journal of Physical Chemistry C. Read it.


May 29, 2013 Sarah Wegwerth gives an oral presentation of her research at the annual IPrime meeting. Vicki Chemistruck and Katie McGarry give poster presentations.

May 28, 2013 Katie McGarry and Victor Young, Jr. with collaborators Wei Xie and Yanfei Wu from the Frisbie Group, and Christopher Sutton and Chad Risko from the Brédas Group are co-authors on their manuscript, "Rubrene-Based Single-Crystal Organic Semiconductors: Synthesis Electronic Structure, and Charge-Transport Properties" published in Chemistry of Materials. Undergraduates Dylan Walsh and Billy Ogden have received Heisig/Gleysteen Summer Research Fellowships to conduct research over the summer of 2013.

May 3, 2013 Chris Douglas presents the group's research at Southern Illinois Univeristy in Carbondale.

April 7-11, 2013 Lots of students in the group head to New Orleans for the ACS National Meeting. Graduate student Naveen Rondla and post-doc Dr. Jodi Ogilvie gave oral presentations on their work in catalysis. Undgergraduate Dylan Walsh gave a poster presentation on his work on asymmetric catalysis. Graduate students Katie McGarry and Vicki Chemistruck gave poster presentations on their work on small molecule based materials for organic electronics. Chris tags along for support before heading to OSU for seminar on the 9th.

February 12-15, 2013 Chris Douglas takes the group's research on tour, giving presentions at the University of Illinois, Chicago, the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and AbbVie in North Chicago.

January 25, 2013 Chris Douglas presents the group's research in catalysis at the University of Rochester in New York.

December 3, 2012 Dr. Yong Guan has joined the laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher. He recently graduated from Michigan State University with his Ph.D. in Chemistry, studying with Professor William Wulff.

November 30, 2012 The group welcomes three new graduate students: Grant Frost from Univeristy of St. Thomas, Sadie Otte from St. Olaf College, and Xin Jiang from Cambridge Univeristy (UK).

October 17, 2012 Chris Douglas presents the group's research in catalysis at an invited talk at the Rocky Mountain Regional American Chemical Society meeting. The session Chris presents in is held to honor the recent Cope Scholar Award to Professor Jeff Aube. Congradulations Professor Aube!

October 2, 2012 Chris Douglas presents the group's research on organic materials and bond activation at DuPont in association with his 2011 DuPont Young Investigator award.

August 30, 2012 We thank the NSF for supporting our research with a CAREER award.

August 17-18, 2012 The group (and spouses) go camping at Willow River State Park in Wisconsin. Thanks to Sarah Wegwerth for organizing this outing.

August 15, 2012 Chris Douglas presents the group's research on catalysis at Merck in Rahway, New Jersey.

August 9, 2012 Diego Gonzalez, Dylan Walsh, and Joy Zhou present posters on their research projects at the Undergraduate Research Symposium at the McNamara Alumni Center.

July 20, 2012 Chris Douglas presents the group's research at Minnesota's ITDD.

July 11-13, 2012 Chris travels to Tucson, AZ for the Cottrell Scholar Conference sponsored by Research Corporation for Science Advancement. The conference focuses on educating 21st century students and sustainable implementation of effective teaching methods. After the conference, Chris met up with Douglas group alum Wayne (Xingxian) Gu and had a tour of his workspace at Ventana Research Corporation.

July 10, 2012 Former group members Evgeny (Eugene) Beletskiy and Sudheer Chava coauthored our publication "Cooperative Catalysis Approach to Intramolecular Hydroacylation" in J. Org. Chem. Read it.

June 12-15, 2012 Katie McGarry, our laboratory saftey officer (LSO), travels to Dow Chemical with other Minnesota LSO's as a part of our ongoing partnership with Dow to improve the culture of saftey at Minnesota. Katie is learning from Dow's best-in-class laboratory safety program. Read more about the program at Jyllian Kemsley's safety blog at C&EN.

June 7, 2012 Welcome to Peter Rothmeier who joins the group as an undergraduate volunteer while he is taking classes at Minnesota this summer, away from his home institution, Boston College.

The group reached a safety milestone - a continuous week without Chris catching a lab-apparel violation. All group members wearing labcoats, close-toed shoes, and safety glasses in the lab. As prommised, the lab heads to Izzy's Icecream, on Chris, as a reward. Let's keep it up!

June 5, 2012 Congratulations to Giang Hoang for successfully defending his PhD thesis. After wrapping things up here in the next few weeks, Giang will leave for his new postion as an instructor of chemistry at the National University of Singapore.

June 4, 2012 Welcome to Diego Gonzalez who joins the group as a MRSEC-REU student, coming from his home institution at Univesity of Texas-Pan American. Diego will be working with Chris on the diarylindenotetracence solar project.

May 12, 2012 Congratulations to Patrick Rothstein for graduating with his B.S. degree in Chemistry. Patrick will begin his graduate education in chemistry at Notre Dame in the fall. Visiting scholar, Matt Luedtke will be departing for graduate work at the University of Vermont.

April 13, 2012 Dylan Walsh has recieved a 2012 Andrews Award for outstanding achievement in undergraduate research and overall scholastic excellence.

February 27, 2012 Dr. Jodi Ogilvie has joined the laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher. She recently graduated from the University of Vermont with her Ph.D. in Chemistry, studying with Professor Matthias Brewer.
