Grades

Grades are organized by University ID number. The total possible points for 4011 is 450, and for 8011 is 600. These weightings are in accordance with the point distributions given in the syllabus for the class. Standard deviations for 4011 and 8011 are calculated and applied separately.

Letter grades are currently assigned by standard distribution from the mean. The scale is set to:

A:  mean + 0.5(SD)
A-:  mean - 0.33(SD)
B+:  mean - 0.83(SD)
B:  mean - 1.33(SD)
B-:  mean - 1.83(SD)
C+:  mean - 2.5(SD)
C:  mean - 3.5(SD)

This scale might change slightly, depending on the actual distribution of scores; if this curve puts too many students with very high or very low grades, it may shift. How you are doing on this scale in terms of points is shown on the scale on the right hand side of this table. Questions? Ask Andy.
