Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships

Summer Undergraduate Theoretical Chemistry Research Fellowship

Summer 2019 application now open!


We are pleased to announce a Summer Undergraduate Theoretical Chemistry Research Fellowship Program sponsored by the Chemical Theory Center (CTC), Inorganometallic Catalyst Design Center (ICDC) and the Nanoporous Materials Genome Center (NMGC) in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.


Who can apply?

The program is open to all undergraduate chemistry majors who will be entering their senior year in Fall 2019.


What are the program dates?

This fellowship is a full-time appointment for a ten-week period between June and August 2019.

Will I receive a stipend?

Fellowship recipients will receive a ten-week stipend of $7000 plus a separate travel supplement, if requested, up to $500. Fellowship recipients are responsible for covering their own housing and food costs.


Who are the faculty mentors?

Participants will perform research under the guidance of one or more of the following faculty:

Research projects will be assigned by a faculty adviser; research projects are available in all areas of theoretical and computational chemistry.


Where will I present my research?

All participants will also present their research in a CTC/ICDC/NMGC minisymposium at the end of the summer and be invited to participate in an undergraduate research poster exposition on campus.


When is the application due?

The application deadline for the summer 2019 program is January 31, 2019. When possible, decisions will be made by the end of February.


How do I apply?

All application materials are due by January 31, 2019. To apply, applicants need to submit the following materials with the Online Application Form

In addition, applicants must submit two letters of recommendation. These letters must be submitted directly by faculty members who applicant has had as an instructor or advisor for independent study or reserach. To submit the letters of recommendation, applicant must submit the e-mail address for their recommendation writers in the Online Application Form. This will send an e-mail request with a submission form to the recommendation writer for them to submit their letter directly to the CTC/ICDC/NMGC. Letters are due by January 31.
