Chemistry is at the Minnesota State Fair

The Department of Chemistry will have a strong presence at the Minnesota State Fair, which runs from Thursday, August 25, through Monday, September 5. The Center for Sustainable Polymers will, once again, have a terrific display on sustainable plastic research as part of this year's Eco Experience. You can check out the exhibit and visit with professors, students, and staff members from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Progress Center (Eco Experience building) located on the corner of Randall Avenue and Cosgrove Street. The College of Science & Engineering (CSE) will have exhibits and demonstrations each day of the fair at the University of Minnesota Exhibit Building, which is located at Dan Patch Avenue and Underwood Street. As part of this, students involved with Alpha Chi Sigma (AXE)' a professional chemistry fraternity, will have exhibits with hands-on experiments on Friday, August 26, and will present chemistry demonstrations at 12:30 p.m., 1:45 p.m., and 3 p.m. Sunday, September 4. In addition, the Department of Chemistry will have shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday, August 25, during STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Day at the Fair. The shows will be presented at Carousel Park in front of the Grandstand. Check out the complete CSE 2011 State Fair schedule on the CSE website.
