Professor Emeritus Alden Mead receives Wigner Medal

Professor Emeritus C. Alden Mead is the 2012 winner of the Wigner Medal. Mead is being honored for his work on the gauge theory of molecules and its application to molecular spectra and scattering. He was a professor of physical chemistry in the Department of Chemistry from 1958-1993.

The Wigner Medal was established in 1977 by the Group Theory and Fundamental Physics Foundation. It honors scientists for their outstanding contributions to the understanding of physics through group theory. Mead is being honored for his work on the gauge theory of molecules and its application to molecular spectra and scattering.

The Wigner Medal ceremony will take place at the XXIX International Colloquium on Group-Theoretical Methods in Physics, which is planned for Monday, August 20, through Sunday, August, 26, at the Chern Institute of Mathematics, Nankai University, China.
