Pomerantz receives AHA scientist development grant

Professor William Pomerantz has been awarded an American Heart Association Scientist Development Grant. This three-year award funds early stage investigators’ research broadly related to cardiovascular function and disease and stroke, or to related clinical, basic science, bioengineering or biotechnology, and public health problems, including multidisciplinary efforts.

Research funds will support an ongoing research effort in Pomerantz’ laboratory for testing the molecular mechanism of bromodomain:histone recognition for regulating cardiac hypertrophy. This research program has been facilitated by the researchers' new small molecule discovery platform using fluorine nuclear magnetic resonance, and new bromodomain probe molecule, AU1. A fourth year of funding is currently under consideration for the national affiliate.
