Mesabi supercomputer aids the work of computational chemists

Kevin Coss, writer and public relations associate for the Office of the Vice President for Research, wrote an excellent article, “Supercomputer fuels research to limit carbon emissions,” about the Mesabi supercomputer at the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute. He illustrated how Mesabi is helping scientists like Professor Laura Gagliardi “conduct compute-intensive research using complex computer modeling programs." Gagliardi is researching the development of a material that can capture carbon emissions—carbon dioxide—from power plant exhaust. She is also performing computer simulations on catalysts that can be used in reactions to manipulate natural gas. Read Coss' article online.
