The Speakers' Banquet was held June 28, 1999, at the Weisman Art Museum on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Symposium co-Chair George Barany (standing, back center of photo) welcomes the honored guests by drawing a comparison between planning this event and planning a wedding. He reminisced about the marriage proposal he wrote in response to a 1986 RFP (Request for Proposal) from Barbara Goldenberg (seated in front of window, red dress). Complete with "Aims", "Background and Significance", "Preliminary Results", and "Methods of Procedure", the proposal was approved but not funded.
