Four optional evening workshops have been arranged. The PE Biosystem workshop is in Room 101ABJI, the Advanced Chemtech workshop is in the Seasons Lounge, the ABRF workshop is in Room 205ABCD, and the ThermoQuest workshop is in Room 101ABC.

Automated Peptide Solutions, sponsored by PE Biosystems, Sunday, June 27, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Register now for this workshop.

Appetizers and beverages, provided by the sponsor, are available at 6:30 p.m.; scientific presentations are from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.; and additional time to meet and mingle with speakers starts at 8:00 p.m. Topics covered include:

Analysis of Synthetic Peptides, sponsored by Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities (ABRF), Monday, June 28, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Summary: Validation of peptide composition and sequence is important for such peptide uses as production of antibodies, but absolutely essential for studies involving the bioactivity of peptides. The workshop will be presented by members of the Peptide Synthesis Research Group (PSRG) of the ABRF, including the new chair of the PSRG, Ashok Khatri, and two members, Steve Kates and Nick Ambulos. Furthermore, Lynda Bonewald, a former chairperson of the PSRG and now president of the ABRF, will be there. PSRG members unable to attend but whose work is included in the workshop are Lisa Bibbs, Kati Medzihradszky, George Osapay, and Sue Weintraub. The workshop will focus on the methodologies used for the analysis of synthetic peptides and their proper application. Specific examples of characterization of peptides will be given and problem peptide solving will be discussed.

New Directions in Combinatorial Chemistry: Technology for the Next Millennium, sponsored by Advanced Chemtech, Monday, June 28, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.

Encoded Combinatorial Strategies for Chemistry Optimization and the Synthesis of Chemical Libraries.
H. Mario Geysen, Glaxo-Wellcome Research Institut.

Combinatorial Chemistry 2000: Latest Technologies for Automated Solid and Solution Phase Synthesis.
Mark Peterson, Advanced ChemTech, Inc.

Keynote Address, Advanced ChemTech Award in Combinatorial Library Science: A Rational Approach to Complex Problems: the Combinatorial Way.
Ronald Frank, the 1999 recipient of the Advanced ChemTech Award in Combinatorial Library Sciences, AG Molekulare Erkennung, Gesellschaft für Biotechnologische Forschung mbH (GBF).

Protein Identification and Ion Trap Mass Spectrometry, sponsored by ThermoQuest, Wednesday, June 30, 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. (times tentative)

The ThermoQuest exhibitor workshop date, time, and place have been changed from what was announced previously (including what appears in the printed Program & Abstracts book). The correct date is Sunday June 27, 1999, time is 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., place is The Seasons Lounge. The overall title is "Ion Trap Mass Spectrometry, SEQUEST and the Web: Powerful tools for Proteomics"; topics covered will include protein identification using database searching, mapping post-translational modifications and de novo sequencing of peptides. The speaker will be Tanuja Chaudhary.
