The Young Investigators' Mini-Symposium will provide opportunities for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and scientists who, at the time of the Symposium, are less than three years beyond their research training and have a professional appointment at an academic or industrial institution, to present their work. Only American Peptide Society members are eligible for consideration. The deadline for submission of abstracts is January 31, 1999.

Abstracts should follow normal submission procedures except that they should be marked clearly as entries to the Young Investigators' MiniSymposium. A curriculum vitae and a letter of support from the individual's current graduate or postdoctoral advisor should accompany the abstract. The Mini-Symposium Program Committee will review and select speakers from these abstracts and supporting documentation. All Mini-Symposium speakers, and additional young scientists selected by the program committee, will be asked to prepare poster presentations. The Poster Competition finalists will be interviewed by the Mini-Symposium committee during the poster sessions. The Bruce Erickson Young Investigators Awards (cash prizes and certificates) will be given in recognition of the most outstanding oral and poster presentations.

Bruce W. Erickson (1942-1998) was one of the founders of, and provided outstanding service to, the American Peptide Society. He was a significant contributor to peptide science, and had an abiding interest in the professional development of young scientists in the field. The Society Council honors his memory by the naming of these awards.
