Baccalaureate to the Futureby George Barany and FriendsThis "high school level" puzzle (17x17) was commissioned by Barbara Barany as an end-of-school-year gift to students she teaches in an International Baccalaureate Program chemistry class at Highland Park High School. After I created the grid, my colleagues Ken Leopold and Sandy Lipsky helped to come up with technically accurate yet interesting theme clues, and then Barbara provided further editing. Clues are as straightforward as we can get them; a "college-level" variation of the puzzle may be found here. Click here to view or download the puzzle in PDF format; here to download it as a puz file; here to download it as an ipuz file [requires the free Puzzazz app to solve]; here to solve the puzzle interactively (thanks to Jim Horne); here for the solution. Some familiarity with the 36-Across will certainly come in handy as you work your way through the puzzle. We thank Noam Elkies, Jed Fisher, Martin Herbach, Deane Morrison, and Alex Vratsanos for invaluable help and suggestions in the development of this puzzle.
