California Dreamin'

This Thursday-ish puzzle (16x19), which includes some slight overtones of political commentary and pop culture (pictorial hint to the right), was created just in time for the Indie 500 crossword tournament in Washington DC, and took on added timeliness as the nation turned its eyes to California for the final major primary of the 2016 Presidential campaign. While solving the puzzle, you might soothe yourself by listening to the hit song [original Mamas and Papas or Beach Boys cover] that provides the puzzle's title.
