Jedi hope you know today's date

by George Barany

This relatively easy puzzle with an unusually shaped grid (21x5) was released on a date of significance that you will learn in solving the puzzle (visual hint to the right).

Click here to view or download the puzzle in PDF format [for technical reasons, the clues and the grid are on separate pages]; here to download it as a puz file; here to download it as an ipuz file [requires the free Puzzazz app to solve]; here to solve the puzzle interactively (thanks to Jim Horne); here for the solution. I thank Martin Ashwood-Smith, Steve Bachman, Todd Gross, Michael Hanko, and Martin Herbach for beta testing on the kind of short notice that is the inevitable result of getting an idea on the way to work, and deciding it is puzzle-worthy by the end of the day.
