"Midrash" by Alex Vratsanos (as told to George Barany) (October 2013)
This puzzle was inspired by an exchange on one of the cruciverb.com forums, as reconstructed in the next paragraph.
On May 11, 2013, Martin Ashwood-Smith asked for a 10-letter word ending in CHEN. The next day, Jim Peredo wrote, "Isn't it obvious? MR_JEFF_CHEN." A few hours later, Chen himself replied, "The correct title is GALACTIC PRIME EMPEROR JEFF CHEN, thank you very much. I decree that fits into a 15x." This inspired Alex to construct the puzzle, which was shared with its subject on May 27. Jeff wondered what was going on, but eventually had a good laugh about it.
