29-Down to 36-Down

by George Barany and Friends

Like the rest of the country, we were in turn appalled, riveted, and moved by the news of the week that started on Monday, April 15, 2013. Once a semblance of normalcy had been restored, I convened our virtual committee which included (in alphabetical order) Marcia Brott, Noam Elkies, Jed Fisher, Lloyd Fricker, Michael Hanko, Martin Herbach, Tom Pepper, and Paul Schoenholz, and we cobbled together the salute to heroism and history that follows.

This "early-week level" puzzle (13x13) is smaller than normal. After completing the puzzle (spoiler), you you may enjoy this cartoon from The New Yorker, and also consider investing 15 min or so to watch the clips from clicking here, here, and here, featuring the incomparable Jon Stewart. Also, in case you are wondering about this puzzle's URL, this Rex Parker post may provide some enlightenment.

Click here to view or download the puzzle in PDF format; here to download it as a puz file; here to download it as an ipuz file [requires the free Puzzazz app to solve]; here to solve the puzzle interactively (thanks to Jim Horne); here for the solution.
