"Tribute" Crossword Puzzles

"Tribute" Crossword Puzzles by George Barany and Friends

The table below lists in reverse chronological order (most recent first) those of our puzzles that may be consider "tributes"—they honor family, friends, and colleagues on the one hand, iconic scientists or statespersons, or academic institutions on another hand, or notable events on a third hand. Sometimes, these puzzles are generally accessible, but more often, the clues and answer words are skewed so that solvers with specialized knowledge have a distinct advantage. I tend to release these puzzles on an individual's birthday or anniversary, and try to provide a picture/graphic as a "hint;" in some cases, additional information is provided for your interest to be viewed after completing the puzzle (or immediately, if you want to forego the puzzle entirely). For obvious reasons, few of the personal puzzles are appropriate for publication in the MSM, although there are occasional significant exceptions. A number of the puzzles that are of special relevance to an institution have been published in the appropriate alumni newsletters or magazines [see column entitled "Comments"].
