Crossing Curing with Caring

by George Barany, Deane Morrison, and Marcia Brott

This Sunday-sized puzzle was constructed as a fun adjunct to Varsity Team Rally III, a community outreach event of (spoiler) the 100-Across held on September 18, 2013 in its new building in the 36-Across District of the 117-Across. Guests at the event received this (double-sided printout on legal-size paper) when entering, and this when leaving. After completing the puzzle (spoiler), learn more about the puzzle by clicking here for our "midrash." You are also urged to click here (mission and background of 100-Across), here (how 100-Across makes a difference, as per 111-Down), and here (how 100-Across provides care). Added October 2013: click here for a report on the event, and here for a photo of GB alongside a poster of the puzzle.

Click here (two pages) or here (one page, for those with good eyesight) to view or download the puzzle in PDF format; here to download it as a puz file; here to download it as an ipuz file [requires the free Puzzazz app to solve]; here to solve the puzzle interactively (thanks to Jim Horne); and here for the solution. The puzzle was commissioned by Karen Kaler, with many valuable suggestions from her and the Varsity Team committee, and we thank Brent Hartzell, Noam Elkies, Jed Fisher, Lloyd Fricker, Michael Hanko, Martin Herbach, and Arlene Romoff for their astute comments after beta testing this puzzle.
