Cyclops de Mayo

by George Barany and Friends

This Tuesday-ish puzzle was released the day after a certain personal event involving a certain beloved member of my family. No specialized knowledge about my family is required to successfully complete the puzzle (pictorial hint to the right). After completing the puzzle (spoiler), learn more about its theme, and some auxiliary issues, by clicking here for our "midrash."

Click here to view or download the puzzle in PDF format; here to download it as a puz file; here to download it as an ipuz file [requires the free Puzzazz app to solve]; here to solve the puzzle interactively (thanks to Jim Horne); here for the solution. Click here for an alternate version of the puzzle that does require knowing a few things about my family, and that includes a certain word crossing that might send the crossword blogosphere into conniptions; here for interactive play; and here for the solution (somewhat different from the main puzzle). I thank Martin Ashwood-Smith, Todd Gross, Michael Hanko, David Hanson, Martin Herbach, Karen Kaler, and Alex Vratsanos for responding to my initial draft in record time, and for helpful suggestions which were incorporated in both final versions.
