Out-of-Seasonal Celebration

This "mid-week level" puzzle was released on the Ides of March, 2012, and celebrated one of my favorite polymaths. The puzzle was reposted on September 2, 2014, a date of great significance to the puzzle's honoree. In the photo at the right (spoiler), taken June 1999 at the 16th American Peptide Symposium world premiere of Peptide Ångst: La Triviata, 50-Across from the puzzle is flanked by the author's children Deborah (age 10) and Michael (age 12).
