Platoon Lieder: the Official Crossword Puzzle

This "late-week level" puzzle was written as a companion to a 2013 cabaret show called Platoon Lieder. Many of the entries in this grid will be easy to fill in once you know the heart-breaking yet hilarious story of co-constructor Michael's stint in the Army. [He was a gay lieutenant when that was not yet authorized.] Solvers who have not yet seen the show should be able to fill in the theme answers via the crossing words.
