Puzzle to Play With

by Arlene Romoff and George Barany

This "mid-week level" puzzle focuses on subject matter that is popular, yet not usually seen in the realm of crosswords. The puzzle first appeared in the September 2015 issue of Natural Selection, as accessed here, after several MSM editors concluded that its subject matter was not of sufficiently wide interest.  We respectfully disagree, and hope that its six theme entries, and the surrounding fill, bring joy to regular visitors to our pages. Also, we hope you like the photo to the right, which shows one of the co-constructors with two "friends." After completing the puzzle (spoiler), click here to read our "midrash."

Click here to view or download the puzzle in PDF format; here to download it as a puz file; here to download it as an ipuz file [requires the free Puzzazz app to solve]; here to solve the puzzle interactively (thanks to Jim Horne); here for the solution. We thank Marcia Brott, Michael Hanko, Brent Hartzell, Martin Herbach, and Tom Williams for beta testing this puzzle at various stages of its development.
