Professional actors offer communication workshops for students

Register by Monday, February 1: University instructors and professional actors Luverne Seifert and Dario Tangelson are offering a series of four communication workshops to chemistry graduate students. Using breathing, vocal and improvisation exercises, students will gain skills to decrease the intensity of stress during communication in order to become more effective speakers. The class culminates with video recording an inventive presentation of each participant’s elevator speech that can be used for web broadcasting.

The class meets from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, February 29, March 28, and April 11, in the Kate and Michael Barany Conference Room (117/119 Smith Hall). The final workshop will be used to record the presentations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at a location to be determined.

Participants must commit to all four workshops in order to participate. Space is limited, so please register your interest via https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ChemSciComm (a detailed description of each workshop session can also be found at this link) by Monday, February 1.
