Chemistry professors honored at Celebrating Innovation event

Six professors from the Department of Chemistry were honored at a Celebrating Innovation event, Thursday, February 10, sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research. Celebrating Innovation honored researchers whose work has been patented, licensed to a company, or used to form a start-up company.

Honorees from the Department of Chemistry included Professors George Barany, Christopher Cramer, Marc Hillmyer, Thomas Hoye, William Tolman, and Donald Truhlar.

Cramer and Truhlar were honored for their license of AMSOL Version 7.0—a semiempirical quantum chemistry program; Barany was honored for his patent, Detection of Nucleic Acid Sequence Differences Using Coupled Ligase Detection and Polymerase Chain Reactions; Hillmyer and Tolman were honored for their patent, Polymer Synthesis from Macrocycles; and Hoye was honored for his patent, Structural, Behavioral Characterization, and Synthesis of Attractants for Migratory Lamprey.

A total of 190 inventors, representing 10 colleges, were honored. Their efforts have resulted in 106 patents and 84 licenses. The event was sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research.
