Four Department of Chemistry graduate students—Veronica Diaz Rodriguez, Michelle Henderson, Benjamin Manning, and Katie Peterson—helped to organize the annual National Institute of Health Chemistry-Biology Interface Training Grant Symposium, which was conducted, Thursday, May 17.
The symposium, Chemical Approaches to Biological Discoveries, was organized by the recipients of the 2011-2012 NIH Chemistry-Biology Interface Training Grant and the NIH-NIGMS Biotechnology Training Grant. This event highlights cross-disciplinary research progress through talks by distinguished scientists and a mid-day poster session by graduate students.
A total of 46 posters were presented by representatives from the departments of Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics. Additional participants from the BioTechnology Institute, Center for Drug Design, Masonic Cancer Center, and the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development also contributed. This event provided a unique opportunity for the 130 attendees to interact with other interdisciplinary researchers, from collaborations, and share their research progress with a like-minded audience.
Other symposium organizers were Sarah Bloch (Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics/BioTechnology Institute), Stephan Cameron (Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics/BioTechnology Institute), Jill Kyzer (Medicinal Chemistry), Margaret Olson (Medicinal Chemistry), and Nick Struntz (Medicinal Chemistry).
