Green Chemistry Commitment challenge semifinalist

The Green Chemistry Commitment, which includes the Department of Chemistry, is a semifinalist in the 2013 Buckminster Fuller Challenge.

The Green Chemistry Commitment is an initiative to get university chemistry departments to commit to integrating green chemistry into their academic curricula. It asks chemistry departments to transform how chemistry is taught and practiced in order to eliminate the numerous devastating neurotoxic and carcinogenic chemicals that characterize modern life and damage the global ecosystem, replacing them with non-toxic alternatives.

The Buckminster Fuller Challenge is an annual international design challenge awarding $100,000 to support the development and implementation of a strategy that has significant potential to solve humanity's most pressing problems. The Green Chemistry Commitment is one of 19 semifinalists that will be reviewed over the next few weeks before finalists are selected in October.

Additional information about the Buckminster Fuller Challenge is available here, and information on the Green Chemistry Commitment's entry is available here. Visit the Green Chemistry Commitment for information on this initiative.
