Senior chemistry major wins Student Research Award

Adam Matula, a senior chemistry major, won a Student Research Award at the Eastern Analytical Symposium. The Eastern Analytical Symposium and Exhibition annually offers awards to recognize and encourage scientific promise and research talent in undergraduate chemistry students.

Adam is one of the Department of Chemistry's outstanding undergraduate students. His scholarship awards for academic excellence include the Lloyd W. Goerke Scholarship and the George T. Walker Scholarship. For two years, he participated in the Heisig/Gleysteen Chemistry Summer Research Program, and he participates in the university's Undergraduate Research Grant Program.

He conducts research under the tutelage of Professor Peter Carr, and currently is working on a research paper as Carr's sole co-author.

Adam will graduate in the spring of 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. He hopes to pursue a graduate degree and a research-based career in the field of analytical chemistry.
