Haynes receives 2015 Advising and Mentoring Award

Professor Christy Haynes has been awarded the 2015 Advising and Mentoring Award by the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly. She was nominated by her students to receive this award.

This competitive award honors advisers who create a culture of mentorship by helping students set realistic expectations, providing opportunities for professional development and/or research, and overcoming personal and professional challenges.

Haynes was lauded for helping her students stayed focused, for paying attention to the dynamics of her research group, for organizing special discussions around books or TED talks, and for encouraging them to take leadership roles. Haynes’ students noted her compassion and her talent for maintaining a balance between supporting them and giving them freedom to pursue their research.

An award ceremony is set for 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, in the President’s Room at the Coffman Memorial Union.
