Recent graduate Dawen Niu receives doctorate prize

Recent research from the research group of Professor

Dawen Niu, Ph.D., has received a 2014 Reaxys PhD Prize. He was selected for his work on "the aromatic ene reaction." This research was published in Nature Chemistry in 2014.

Niu worked with Professor Thomas Hoye at the University of Minnesota, earning his doctorate in 2014. He is now a post-doctoral associate, working with Professor Stephen Buchwald at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Reaxys PhD Prize is awarded for original and innovative research in synthetic chemistry, which demonstrates excellence in methodology and approach by a candidate currently studying for a doctorate or having completed a doctorate after January 1, 2013. Each year, submissions are reviewed by leading experts in their fields to select 45 finalists. From these, these winners are then chosen to receive the main prize. There were a total of 537 submissions this year.

Niu has been invited to attend this year’s Reaxys Inspiring Chemistry Conference, September 21–24, in Grindelwald, Switzerland. At the conference he will present his research, and participate in a celebration of chemistry, including some great keynotes and presentations by members of the Reaxys Prize Club.
