Interesting research by the ICDC featured in energy newsletter

Recent research from the research group of Professor

Research by the University of Minnesota-based Inorganometallic Catalyst Design Center (ICDC), which is led by Professor Laura Gagliardi, is featured in a Frontiers in Energy Research newsletter.

One of the articles, “The Secrets such Structures may hold: Zeolites and Metal-Organic Frameworks,” was written by Laura Fernandez, a post-doctorate associate working with Professor Donald Truhlar. She is the scientific coordinator for the ICDC. Her current research focuses on force field development for metal-organic frameworks and computational investigations of atomic layer deposition in metal-organic frameworks.

With co-author Emily Sahadeo, Fernandez creatively explains that the ICDC and the Catalysis Center for Energy Innovation are looking at how small-pore materials have large catalytic potential for efficient plastics and biofuel production.

In the second article, “Two Cobalts are Better Than One,” author S. Garrett Williams writes about how the ICDC has “increased the effectiveness of a nitrogen-functionalizing catalyst by using a second metal center to tune the catalytic properties of the catalyst.” He highlights the work, "Catalytic Silylation of Dinotrogen with a Dicobalt Complex," that was written by Randall Siedschlag, Varinia Bernales, Konstantinos Vogiatzie, Nora Planas, Laura Clouston, Eckhard Bill, Laura Gagliardi, and Connie Lu, which was published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society in March.

This article also references the recently published work of Laura Clouston, Varinia Bernales, Rebecca Carlson, Gagliardi, and Professor Connie Lu, “Bimetallic Cobalt–Dinitrogen Complexes: Impact of the Supporting Metal on N2 Activation” that was published in Inorganic Chemistry.
