Give Our Regards to a Broad ...

by George Barany and Ellen Ross

This "mid-week level" puzzle (19x19) celebrates an odometer birthday of the puzzle's honoree (pictured to the right), and includes a significant focus on show business past and present. A moderate amount of "inside" knowledge may help solvers, but is not essential. After completing the puzzle (spoiler), learn more about the honoree, and about the puzzle itself, by clicking here for our "midrash," and here for Ellen's blogpost.  Note that the puzzle's release was timed to coincide with the national broadcast of a major industry event.

Click here (two pages) or here (one page, for those with good eyesight) to view or download the puzzle in PDF format; here to download it as a puz file; here to download it as an ipuz file [requires the free Puzzazz app to solve]; here to solve the puzzle interactively (thanks to Jim Horne); here for the solution. Some of you may want to exercise your inner Will Shortz by finding fault with an earlier version: here (two pages) or here (one page), here for the puz file, here to download it as an ipuz file, here for interactive play, and here for the solution. We thank Martin Ashwood-Smith, Michael Hanko, and Martin Herbach for exercising their own inner George Abbott, Abe Burrows, and Jerome Robbins (not necessarily in that order) by acting as "puzzle doctors" on a very tight timeline.
