MYSTERY PUZZLE — I Swear Crossword

This "early-week level" puzzle was a prize for the Enigma Variations crossword metapuzzle contest. It was completed in time for release at the 2015 American Crossword Puzzle Tournament, and accompanied a syndicated column by the Judge (links below). No specialized knowledge about its honoree (pictorial hint to the right) is required to solve the puzzle, but it does contain some "Easter eggs" that will be of particular interest to said honoree. Puzzle posted on this site by permission of the Hamilton County Herald (3/27/2015) and its sister publication, The Daily Record. As a bonus, you may enjoy reading this, this, and this.
